The Problem
Nora is a family-friendly area on the Northside of Indianapolis. Known as the birthplace of the famous Monon Trail, Nora’s neighborhoods are known for their diverse houses and large lots. Tiffany Johnsen’s family enjoys living in the area, which is home to North Central High School. Their home’s chimney was deteriorated north of the roofline, which is a safety hazard. Inside the chimney, the smoke chamber had holes in it. The family wanted to make sure their fireplace was safe to use, so they contacted Brick + Ember Outfitters.
The Solution
After inspecting the chimney inside and out, Brick + Ember Outfitters determined that the chimney needed to be rebuilt. 33 new rows were installed to solve the deterioration. They also received a new concrete crown on the chimney to help water flow away from the structure. In order to make sure the chimney was safe to use, Brick + Ember Outfitters did an interior inspection of the smoke chamber and gave the homeowner a parge. This means that a mixture of cement, water, and lime was applied in order to seal holes, water damage, and air leaks. At the end of the day, they had a fully-functional fireplace, and the family felt at ease knowing that their chimney was safe to use.
